Welcome to the Independent Futures events calendar! Activities registration opens each quarter with a new calendar. To be added to the notification list, please email center@independentfutures.com.
Before signing up for activities, new participants are required to meet with staff and complete an introduction process. This is necessary to guarantee that the best supports are available for each individual.
Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns and we look forward to hearing from you soon. If you would have any questions, please reach out to Jeff Morthorst at (224) 545-3925.

Calling all writers! Are you looking for a place to share poems you’ve written? Then join us at Poetry Plus!
We will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM on Zoom. Our first half hour will be optional – if you’ve got writer’s block or just want a new idea to work on, you will receive a poetry prompt and have a little time to begin crafting your new poem.
We will start the sharing of poems at 7:00 PM. You may read your poems yourself or you can have someone else read them aloud for you. Jeny, the facilitator, will gladly do it! After everyone who would like to share their poetry has had a chance to do so, and if we have time left, we will then open the meeting up for participants to share anything they’ve written that is not poetry.

Participants will explore musicals and their connection to other forms of entertainment. How does the Wizard of Oz influence its modern sibling, The Wiz? How do modern movie musicals borrow from their live counterparts? We will travel from musical theater’s infancy in the 1940s all the way to today’s hits, with fun trivia, guest appearances, and scene study sprinkled in along the way.
